We are excited to announce the first offering of PEERS in the Central Florida! PEERS is ” a program for the Education and Enrichment of Relational Skills (PEERS®), a 14-week evidence-based social skills intervention for motivated teens in middle school or high school who are interested in learning ways to help them make and keep friends. During each group session teens are taught important social skills and are given the opportunity to practice these skills in session during real play activities (e.g. playing sports, board games, etc.).
Parents are taught how to assist their teens in making and keeping friends by providing feedback through coaching during weekly socialization homework assignments.” (see link below for more information)
Class will take place Friday evenings, October 2nd,2015-January 8th, 2016. Parents will meet from 5:30-7:00, teens will meet from 7:15-8:45. The cost for these classes is $75 per week per family out of pocket; the group is limited to ten families. This is quite a commitment, but we believe in PEERS! Please study the link from UCLA, and contact us with questions or concerns. Classes will meet at our Edgewater offices. Students must be between the ages of 14 and 17, and have a diagnosis of what is formerly Asperger’s Syndrome but is now classifed as “ASD.”
Kate is a Certified PEERS Trainer, trained by Dr. Elizabeth Laugeson, PhD of UCLA. There are three slots left in this class; people are signing up already and when it is full, it is full! If you are interested please fill out the form below to make an appointment time for a phone interview to see if PEERS is right for your teen.
